Step Up MCR launches Corporate Volunteer Days!

May 2024

Stepping Up for MCR with Microsoft UK

Last week Microsoft UK headed to Manchester, swapping laptops and headsets for wheelbarrows and spades for a day of community action!

Joining us from as far as London, Reading, Bristol, Glasgow and Solihull, 35 wonderful volunteers offered a helping hand at four local projects across Beswick, Clayton and Openshaw.

The teams were full of smiles and eager to get stuck in with activities like:

🌱 Tidying up the beautiful heritage gardens at Clayton Hall
🖌️Painting railings in the park for Max Trax
🌷Preparing The Resonance Centre’s outside community space for the summer
🌿Digging and planting at Beswick Urban Growers’ allotment

Matching businesses to the perfect volunteering opportunities is something we love to do at Step Up MCR.

Microsoft UK offers staff three volunteer days a year to support communities and it was a real pleasure to co-ordinate such a brilliant day of giving back.

If you're finding that uptake of volunteer days is low at your organisation, you're not alone.

Research by The London Benchmarking Group found that of the
11 million days of paid volunteering leave offered in the UK every year, only 14.3% is taken up.

That means
200 million hours of corporate volunteering goes to waste each year.

We know from working with Microsoft UK that isn't because teams aren't willing. There so many barriers, from time constraints to community engagement.

Teaming up with Step Up MCR could be your golden ticket to nailing your social impact.
