Backwell & Burman Together
In 2023, Steve Helme initiated a community effort after discussions regarding fly tipping behind the terraced houses on Burman Street. With a clear goal, Steve wished to collaborate with residents in forming a community group to address not only this particular issue but also to improve the area, tackle local challenges, and refresh the space.
With support from Step Up MCR and in partnership with Manchester City Council, Backwell & Burman Together is currently coordinating a series of regular cleanups in the alleyway of Burman Street. Volunteers are welcomed with a brew and a biscuit, plus activities for children, as they work together to clear debris and exchange ideas for community improvement.
Steve actively engages with the local community, sharing information on free removal services provided by Manchester City Council as well as offering recycling guidance to foster a sense of belonging and environmental responsibility amongst residents.
Looking ahead, Backwell & Burman Together are planning to introduce planters, seating, and communal spaces, alongside potential social activities for residents. Stay tuned for exciting developments!
